The Fear
of Falling
The Underwater
Studio was one of the sponsors & host to the The Fear of Falling by Sophie Lewis & Emma
Critchley.
The Fear of Falling is
a series of timeless, life-size underwater portraits that present new ways to
consider the profound experience of submergence. Exploring our changing
relationship to the present moment when immersed, the subject moves away from
the ethereal and floaty imagery usually associated with water and offers instead
a more grounded and weighted sense of being. With a gentle nod towards the
Industrial Revolution and making processes surrounding the period, the portraits
pose the question; could the shifts in consciousness whilst immersed be akin to
those experienced centuries ago?
The project is the brainchild
of artists Emma Critchley and Sophie Lewis. Emma’s award winning
underwater photography has been recognised both nationally and internationally
with exhibitions in the UK, Spain, Canada and Australia. Sophie, a pioneer of
water movement therapy and expert in her field, alongside working on numerous
underwater art-based projects, has received widespread recognition for her work
and been featured on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, The Daily
Telegraph and Time Out.

LARA CROFT PHOTO
SHOOT AT THE UNDERWATER STUDIO
Alison Carroll, a
23-year-old gymnast from Croydon, is the latest beauty to
bring the gun-toting cyber heroine to life.
She follows in the
footsteps of Jolie, who starred as Lara in the Tomb Raider
film.
But Carroll has not landed
a movie role - instead she will promote the new Tomb Raider
video game, Underworld, which is released in November.
To prepare for her new
job, she will be given SAS survival training, a weapons
training course in eastern Europe and a crash course in
archaeology (Lara's day job).
Alison spent the day
at The Underwater Studio shooting publicity photos
on and underwater.
